History
Citrine is quite rarely met, thats why you most probably wont come through many references in history of this gem. One more interesting mixture of amethyst and smoky quartz form a bi-colored quartz ametrine. Actually most citrines are heated amethysts, being less expensive. Genuine citrine can be distinguished by pale yellow color, while other citrines usually have reddish tints.

Citrine has 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness (the highest is 10).
Shape
The most common cuttings for citrine are beads, carvings, faceted, cabochons.
Occurrences
The great amount of citrine can be found in Brazil, especially in Sierra mines in the Rio Grande do Sul. These are mainly heat-treated amethysts. Natural citrine is mined in the Ural Mountains in Russia, as well as France and Madagascar.

Birthstone
Citrine is a birthstone of November and also an astrological talisman for Virgo.
